The spinal column contains open spaces that create passageways for the spinal cord and the spinal nerves. Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of (or an intrusion into) these openings. This can cause a compression of the nerves. Spinal stenosis most commonly affects the cervical and lumbar regions of the spine.

Suffered back and leg pain and back spasms for many years. Had many pain injection procedures that after a few years no longer provided relief. Was referred to Dr. Cantor from my shoulder surgeon who did both my shoulder replacements with great success.
Dr. Cantor was not quick to recommended surgery, but made sure it was my only alternative. This was greatly appreciated. But, once surgery was the only option, he began by suggesting dietary, nutritional and exercise actions to prepare me for the surgery and the quickest and most complete recovery. Holy Cross Hospital staff was fantastic and their training procedure to ensure the best adaptation to recovery was excellent and unexpected. I was walking the next day using the techniques and support staff provided by Dr Cantor with little pain and discomfort. I have now been pain free for two years with no negative post surgery aftereffects. I cannot say enough about the expertise and total care provided by Dr Cantor.

I fell from a hammock onto the tailbone, ignored the incident apart from coping with the immediate pain, but gradually began experiencing ache and pains in my lower back until it grew to constant pain both in my lower back and finally down my left leg. When I finally saw Dr. Cantor, my L4 was badly degenerated, and L5, S1 were deteriorated. I had bone spurs and fragments in my spine. After extensive surgery in which Dr. Cantor removed the bone spurs and bone fragments, cleared the nerve channels, used two pins to fuse L4/L5, and did extensive bone grafting to L5 and S1, I was on the long road to recovery. It is now two years since surgery, and I am totally pain free. It did take about a year for me to feel fully normal again, but that was because of the bone grafting, which takes time to become part of the spine as cells grow over them. I can't say that recovery was a breeze. I was a process, and I had to be patient and compliant, but it was totally worth it in the end. I can't say enough about how brilliant a surgeon Dr. Cantor is. He spent an extra hour in surgery than was intended in order to remove all bone debris, and to insert spacers between L4 and L5, as the discs were completely collapsed. I could not have gotten a better surgeon, who saved me having 8 screws in my back, and brilliantly rebuilt my vertebrae. Thank you. Dr. Cantor.

I have always enjoyed physical activity. It is a very important part of my life. Due to a bicycle accident in May, 2017, my ability to not only work out, but also perform normal choirs such as gardening, became almost impossible. My conditioned continued to worsen to the point it became difficult to walk without risking incredible spasmodic pain in one or both legs. In September, 2017, I visited my primary doctor who diagnosed a neurological issue which diagnosis was confirmed by a neurologist. A friend and orthopedic surgeon highly recommended Dr. Jeff Cantor. When I visited Dr. Cantor, I was admittedly skeptical of his claim that following surgery I would be without pain and able to resume all those activities I had been doing before my bike accident.

In early November, 2017, at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, FL, Dr. Cantor performed an Extreme Lumbar Interbody Fusion. The operation lasted almost eight hours. That evening, after the nurses had left, I got out of my hospital bed and walked - no spasmodic pain, none, just as Dr. Cantor had promised. Now, 15 months after the operation, I am able to bicycle, ride the elliptical and stairmaster machine, and also the treadmill without limitation or pain. Last week, I worked outside in my backyard for 5 1/2 hours on a construction project. That day and the next, I had no residual back pain. It is almost to good to be true. My back feels better now than it has in the last 25 or 30 years. I highly recommend Dr. Cantor. I don't think there is a better back surgeon.

I am beyond thankful for the life changing surgery that Dr. Asghar performed on my lumbar spine. It was a revision spinal fusion and if not done and done right the condition would have led to loss of leg function. I now can walk normally again without any pain in my leg. Not only did Dr. Asghar take extraordinary time studying my particular situation and coming up with a solid plan, he took a great deal of time explaining it in detail without a shred of ego or attitude. I recommend him for anyone where surgery is your only option and you want it done correctly with attention to detail. His assistant Priscila is incredible and followed up with me everyday after surgery and provided clear instructions tailored to me (as she is his assistant during surgery and knows exactly what is going on.) What a great team!
